Fall Frolic

It was a perfect day to visit Boone and take a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway so Tonka, Steve, and I loaded up before dawn and headed out of town. We had a relaxing morning of walking trails and checking out the beautiful leaves.

Got mums?

We didn't know it but we have 4 of these huge mums in our flower bed out front. Pretty and free fall decor :)

Finding Nemo

Found him Mom!

These boots are made for walking.....

and that's just what they'll do.

Torn

Am I the only one who ever feels so torn about what they want to do in life? Some of you have heard my thoughts on this but it does not seem to be getting resolved so I'm going to put it in writing.

Picture this: You are on a straight road with a few hills, twists, and turns but overall you are able to keep moving forward. All of a sudden you start to look left and right and realize there are other roads you could go down and you start to wonder. Should I try and go down those roads? What if I get to the end and decide to go down another road? Confused yet? If so, welcome to my life! If not, please tell me how you do it.

The fact of the matter is we do not live forever and we can't possibly do everything we want to do but seriously there is soooo much I want to do, see, etc.

Exhibit A: My original intent when I went to college was to major in Marine Biology, then it was med school, and what do you know I majored in Communication. Close right? Not so much.

At the same time I still have a strong desire to go back to school and major in something related to healthcare. Currently, I work in healthcare just not exactly in the healthcare part. Got that?

I'm fairly certain med school itself is out of the question however last week I returned to ECU and met with a great professor regarding the new Health Communication program. This way I can have the best of both worlds. Am I going to do it? Yea...not sure. I'm hoping to do it is probably the best way to put it for all of you fabulous people.

So many decisions, sacrifices, etc. have to be made. My work, my husband, myself, and many others would have to be part of the final decision. My goal is to start there next Fall one night a week which entails driving to Greenville one night a week. Sound like fun yet?

There is more to this than all of that even. I worry. What if after that? The problem is I know me and I know I won't be satisfied after that and I guess we should never be satisfied but it would be nice one to feel like I'm in the here and now instead of wondering what comes next ya know?

Then there are issues even still. I want to travel, do photography, have kids, and more but where does it all fit? So much to do in so little time and I'm just having trouble figuring out how to put the puzzle together. It is time for me to start trying to just live each day and letting the cards fall where they may but it is soooo hard.

Two quotes on this subject both by the wonderful Ralph Waldo Emerson caught my eye, The first says:

"We are always getting ready to live but never living."

This one describes my every day and it makes me sad. I'm always thinking one step ahead even though my future is not even in my control.

The next one says: "With the past, I have nothing to do; nor with the future. I live now."

This is how I would like to work towards feeling.

Wow, I'm glad I got all of that out although I'm not sure if I feel better or worse. It is not in my hands I've just got to have faith and it will all work itself out.

My Nephew the Soccer Star

The highlight of our weekend was watching our nephew play in a local soccer tournament. His team ended up finishing second in the tournament but it was still very fun and enjoyable to watch.

He is #26 in the blue and white uniform. Below he is doing what he does best on defense and keeping the other guy from scoring.

Throwing the ball in from out of bounds. Look at the beautiful blue sky. It was really a great day to enjoy the outdoors and watch some soccer.

Getting in position.

Going for the goal!!!

Way to go buddy! We are so proud of you and look forward to seeing more games in the future.

Book Review: The Wedding

This was a good follow up to The Red Tent since it was more of a lighter read that I knew I could finish quickly. It was exactly what a expected from Nicholas Sparks, a well written love story.

This book is the story of a couple who has been married for many years and have hit a rough patch. To make up for it the husband plans an elaborate surprise. I'm not going to say much more because I didn't see the ending coming and I don't want to spoil it. Enjoy this book while laying on the beach :)

Book Review: The Red Tent

What a wonderful book! It did take me quite a few pages to decide it was worth finishing but I'm really glad I did. This books follows a young girl through life as she knows it. It outlines what it is like to grow up in a culture filled with sacred Gods, rituals, and family.

The book can be hard to follow at times because there are many characters but she does a good job of keeping them all differentiated for the reader. Throughout the book you will follow along as she falls in love, loses family members due to heinous crimes, and moves with her family from one part of the land to another.

Very good book!

"Expect Nothing, Live Frugally on Surprise"

Tomorrow is a new day. I'm going to try and begin trying to live my life with this quote I found as my guide.

Today has not been a good day but I think it is because I expect things or feel like things are my right as I was reading in another blog yesterday.

I'm going to start being more grateful for all of the things I have that many people are lacking. It is not yet Thanksgiving yet but I want to take this time to remind myself of things things that I'm thankful for each day.

1) Good Health
2) My wonderful Husband
3) My Job
4) My Family
5) The fact that I have a roof over my head and a car that gets me from Point A to Point B
6) My friends of which there are many that support me in many different ways. Some are the pillars I lean on and some are the ones that make me laugh after a bad day. They all play a role in who I am today.
7) Food to eat and water to drink.
8) My puppy, Tonka.

Today has not been a good day by my standards but by many people's standards it has been great. The things that are weighing heavy on my heart don't matter in the grand scheme of things. My life is great. Why can't I just let go of the things in life that don't always go my way?

It's because I expect it all to go my way so for now on I defer to the title of this post as I continue through the twists and turns of life.

What is on my birthday list?

Nikon D40 SLR Camera with Lens. Isn't it sexy?

Kitchenaid Mixer that can make anything and everything under the sun or just sit on the counter and look pretty. Whatever works :)

The oh so beautiful ECU Pirate purple laptop by Dell. It would go with with the ECU gold walls in my office huh?

The list goes on but these are the three fabulous pieces of my dreams.

Then and Now

Hey everyone! This is my mom's blog but she has posted a lot in the last couple days but just in case you haven't noticed like none of the words are about me so I decided to do something about it.

So, I used to be real little. Before my Mom and Dad came to pick me up my "mommy before my mommy" would send pictures through something called email (whatever that is). The picture up there is the first of many these silly people would make me take. Beside me on the left that is my brother. He was nice but he went home with another nice family.

This picture was on my new porch on my second day with my new family. I was tired after playing in the mud all day so I decided to lay down.

For those of you who don't know me well I like to lay in the grass and chew on things too. In this picture I'm chewing on something reeeallly tasty. It was probably a rock that mommy had to take away so I wouldn't get choked.

This was my first swim. Silly dog parents bought me a pool to see if I liked the water. Ummm, I guess they didn't read the owner's manual that came with me. Labs LOVE water.

See, I told you I like to chew on things. This is a really tasty stick I found in the yard. It was good.

This is my favorite place to sleep besides the couch or the bed. It's nice and cool.

Thanks for stopping by! I'm going to post more later when I can get mom to load some more recent pics on the 'puter. This one is from July so I've grown quite a bit since then. My 7 month birthday was October 1st and I'm about 55 lbs now. Little do they know I'm going to grow A LOT more...hehehehehe!
Have a good weekend!

The Time Traveler's Wife Book Review

So, I had read the raves about this book and I'm going to say up front I totally don't think it was all it was cracked up to be.

There was no real suspense involved in this story and it really wasn't that great of a love story because of the fact that the main character was a time traveler. Due to this you knew what was going to happen way in advance so there was no real "wait and see" because you were told what would happen.

Oh well, I'm reading The Red Tent and it has gotten off to a slow start so far but it seems to be getting better. Here's to hoping!

It's my birthday month!!

Yay! It feels so good outside too. Let the celebration begin :)

Our New Home with Paint Added

Above is the view from the kitchen into the breakfast nook. Originally, we had that china cabinet in the dining room and the one in the dining room in the corner of the breakfast nook but scratch that because they are now relocated.

The color on the walls in here is SW Basket Beige. This is the same color used throughout most of the house.

Can you see my pretty china in the pretty cabinet? You love it don't you? I hope so because I'm mildly obsessed with my pretty little plates.

This is the view looking from the hallway/laundry room through the dining room and foyer into the office. Did you catch all that?

The guest bath. Oh, how I love thee. I'm going to add a piece of furniture to store pretty towels in as well as hang a couple of pictures of Tonka but this room is almost done hopefully.

We used SW Sassy Green in this room. Don't you just love it?

The dining room. We are yet to actually sit at this table and eat since we eat all of our meals on the deck. Pretty soon we are going to get some use out of it for both Thanksgiving and my upcoming Supper Club with the JL ladies.

The color we used in this room is SW Fireweed. Also, please ignore the ugle and very fake plant. I'm decorating the table for all and donating him to the Bargain Box for someone else to have.

Ahhh, my sanctuary. Actually, I very rarely go in here and the doors stay closed but this is my ECU room. See the picture on the wall? I'm going to be adding a few other smaller prints in the next couple of weeks.

The color in here is SW Beeswax. It's actually a lot brighter than this picture makes it look but it still looks really nice and calming.

Steve's sanctuary. There used to be a hole above the tv but it is now gone thanks to our wonderful painters who closed it in for us. It looks a lot cleaner with the tv hanging.

Also, I'm going to be decorating the mantle for fall this week as well.

Don't you remember? I love fall!

Thanks for stopping by. Part of the reason I started this blog is so I could chronicle our house updates so look for more in the very near future.

Have a great day!
